During the past ten years, Bulgaria has been building up a state-of-the-art mobile communications, CDMA, Wi-Max and cable systems. Telecommunication satellites cannot be left aside and are considered as an essential component of Bulgaria’s telecommunication national network.
As member of the European Union and NATO, Bulgaria needs also to have access to proper satellite telecommunications facilities which shall ensure not only a resilient national coverage at any time but also secure communications for the state of Bulgaria and its armed forces.
Certain trans-national satellite solutions exist, such as the services offered by Paradigm Secure Communications of the United Kingdom. However, EU and NATO members are giving preference to national solutions to be part of a broader multi-country architecture.
The current state of Bulgarian Public Finance recommend to fund the acquisition of the much needed satellite capacities by means of a European Structural Funds.
